HORIZON CITY, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 24-year-old was arrested in Horizon City on Friday after police said he led them on a pursuit, allegedly to see if they could pull him over.
According to the Horizon City Police Department, Carlos Almeralla III was arrested at around 9:44 p.m. in a residential neighborhood near Sarum & Celtic Drive, by Eastlake Boulevard, after he was allegedly speeding, driving at 83 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone.
HCPD said officers tried to pull Almeralla III over, but he allegedly kept on speeding, leading police on a chase and almost causing a crash while recklessly changing lanes.
Almeralla III allegedly led the chase from Eastlake Boulevard and through residential streets like Lichfield, Celtic and Sarum Drive.
After Almeralla III was caught, officers reportedly asked him why he turned into the residential streets, and he allegedly answered that he wanted to see if officers were going to pull him over.
Jail records show Almeralla III was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail, charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle and bond was set at $20,000.
According to jail records Almeralla III was released from jail Saturday after posting a surety bond.
