EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Commissioners Court declared Aug. 31 as “Cookie Queens Day” to honor one local Girl Scout and her troop after a national documentary showed their dedication and entrepreneurship in selling the beloved Girl Scout cookies.
The documentary, “Cookie Queens,” is about the busiest time of year for the girls in green berets: Girl Scout Cookie season. The film revolves around four girls and their troops.
Shannon Elizabeth Stevens, a member of the El Paso Troop 50063 since 2021, is one of the top cookie sellers in the organization, known for selling more than 1,000 boxes during the season, trying to earn the “Cookie Queen” title.
Members of Troop 50063 were with Stevens when awarded the “Cookie Queens Day” resolution, including Delilah, Monce, Parker, Bailey, Robin and Sophie.

Throughout “Cookie Queens,” the film follows Stevens and her troop as her entrepreneurial journey of selling cookies continues, along with iconic shots of El Paso, including McKelligon Canyon and the Bronco Swap Meet.
“I don’t think I fully understood what it would mean to have a day named for something that had been such a big part of my life. But standing here today, I understand that this isn’t just about me. It’s about my troop, it’s about my “Cookie Queen” family, and it’s about the community of El Paso that has supported us,” Stevens said.

“Girl Scouts is sometimes reduced to cookies, badges, camping and uniforms. But anyone who has actually watched girls grow through the program knows it so much more. Girl Scouts teaches girls to lead; it teaches them to communicate; it teaches them to set goals; it teaches them resilience,” Steven’s mom, Amanda Stevens, said.
“Cookie Queens” premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and was released in theatres on Aug. 7 nationwide.
