SAN ANTONIO – Some families say their power is back on after Friday night’s storms.
While their lights are back on, the storms left behind more damage than they know what to do with.

The aftermath has left a mess along several west-side streets.
“I heard some bad, hard wind, like wind blowing hard and raining hard, and lightning,” said one woman named Carmen. A tree was knocked over on her property. “I said, ‘Oh, my God’, I started praying for the houses not to get blown away.”
Heavy rain and whipping winds knocked over several trees and powerlines; leaving tens of thousands without power for days.
“The debris on Santiago St. is neatly stacked away now. People in the neighborhood say the damage left behind will be expensive to fix.
“The roof, they had leaks and there was just a bunch of debris everywhere,” said Monica Lara. She also lives near Santiago Rd. “Once we left, like at two in the morning, there was a bunch of trees with roots split in half.”
Leaks left behind moldy sheetrock and damaged roofs; forcing Monica and her five children to live in an Airbnb while they figure out where to turn next.
She and some of her neighbors are trying to manage it all without the help of insurance.
“I have cancer,” Carmen said. “I said oh my God. I don’t even got money right now for this.”
“We’re just taking it day-by-day and seeing,” Lara said. “We do need a lot of work in the house now, a lot more than we thought we needed.”
They’re now looking for help wherever they can.
We’ve reached out to District 5 Councilwoman Teri Castillo’s office for answers on what residents can do in the meantime.
