The second-year running back is signing with the Philadelphia Eagles and joining the practice squad, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Dallas Morning News.

“We said to both those guys that we weren’t sure that we were [bringing them back],” Schottenheimer said when asked about the two backs. “Not sure that it would go that direction. And that’s as honest as I could be with them.”

Mafah is yet to sign on with another team as of Monday evening.

Blue was a fifth-round pick out of Texas in 2025 and was expected to compete for the Cowboys’ backup running back position, but, like in 2026, that never came to fruition. Blue only appeared in five games in his rookie season, rushing for 129 yards on 38 carries with one touchdown.

He’ll get a fresh start in Philadelphia, where he’ll compete for time behind starter Saquon Barkley with backups Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley.
