August has been one of the driest months on record for North Texas.
As of Sunday, Aug. 30, the region has not recorded any measurable rainfall in 46 days, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. This stretch is tied with 1974 as the 10th longest streak without any measurable precipitation, which is any rainfall at least 0.01 inch and higher.
There are a few spots across the region that saw rain last week, but the NWS’ official climate site at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport only measured trace amounts, which is any quantity below 0.01 inch.

There’s only been one August in record-keeping history that recorded zero inches of rain for the month. That was in 2000.
This month will be the seventh August in history to only record trace rainfall for the month, including 1902, 1913, 1929, 1943, 1980, 1999 and 2023.
However, as the month comes to a close, North Texas will see a slight chance of rain later in the week.

A tropical disturbance that is currently in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to move into the upper Texas coast this week, bringing increased moisture and rain chances to much of the Interstate 45 corridor from late Tuesday, Sept. 1, through Thursday, Sept. 3.
Central Texas will have the best chances for rain this week with amounts between 0.25 to 1 inch, with isolated amounts up to 2 inches. The NWS said North Texas will likely miss out, since there’s only a 5% chance of receiving 0.10 of an inch this week.
Nevertheless, the cloud cover and additional moisture should slightly cool off the region. And by slightly cool, that means bring daily highs below triple digits.
