The former Dallas Cowboys running back is getting a chance at redemption by joining a top rival of the team that waived him over the weekend.

One of the biggest surprises emerging from the Dallas Cowboys’ initial 53-man roster was the absence of running back Jaydon Blue. A second-year, former fifth-round pick, Blue appeared to be on his way to be a part of the Cowboys depth chart.
Instead, he was waived by the Cowboys on Sunday. And it kept getting progressively worse for a while. He cleared waivers on Monday, meaning none of the 31 teams put in a claim to get him. Later, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer suggested he wouldn’t look into bringing him back to the practice squad.
But Blue is getting a chance to bounce back. And in the process, he might get some revenge on the Cowboys.

That’s right, it’s the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles who ended up getting Jaydon Blue. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles are signing Blue to their practice squad. There, Blue will join a crowded running back room featuring Saquon Barkley, Tank Bigsby, and Will Shipley.
But before Blue even daydreams about a promotion (or temporary elevation) to the gameday roster, he needs to win a battle he hasn’t yet: a battle with the man in the mirror.
Blue’s career with the Cowboys got off on the wrong foot largely because of trust issues and inconsistency problems rather than on-field performance. In his rookie offseason, a former Cowboys coach called Blue “borderline lazy” in what was described at the time as rumors. Blue went on to be a healthy scratch for the majority of the year.
Following the Cowboys’ decision to waive Blue over the weekend, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler posted on social media: “Blue had well-known football character concerns coming out of Texas. Cowboys bet on the talent in the 5th round but it wasn’t enough.”
Now, the Eagles are giving Blue a chance at redemption. Philadelphia’s GM Howie Roseman is no stranger for betting on players with high upside like him, but there’s no guarantee it will translate into anything else.
That’s up to Blue and Blue alone. If things go well, he might just get a chance to play his former team in the near future.
