North Texas has been placed under a freeze warning as the Dallas-Fort Worth area gets its first cold front of the season, with temperatures dropping into the low 30s in most areas.

Several counties in North Texas including Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton were upgraded to a freeze warning late Saturday, according to an alert from the National Weather Service.

Temperatures in D-FW are forecasted by the weather service to be sunny and around the high 50s during the day Sunday. However, temperatures will start to dip into the mid-30s by nightfall, lasting into Monday morning.

Wind speeds Sunday night in D-FW may also contribute to the cold temperatures as gusts are expected to get as high as 25 mph.

During the cold weather, people should bundle up and be mindful of pets, pipes and plants that are outside.

The mix of lower temperatures and high wind speeds may cause power outages. It’s recommended to report the outage when it occurs and to prepare before hand by having flashing lights and ways to keep warm on hand.
