LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A grand jury issued a formal murder charge against a man accused of killing another person in July.
Robert Kinney told police multiple people showed up to his family’s home in the middle of the night with his son.
Kinney said he got his gun and told investigators he fired a warning shot into the air and approached the vehicles.
That is when he said he saw his son unconscious in the backseat.
Kinney said that when he went to wake his son up, 37-year-old Stephon Jones started hitting him in the face.
Kinney admitted to police he knowingly squeezed the trigger during the altercation.
Kinney’s lawyers claimed he was protecting his home and his family.
