Five-time state champion Allen is coming off an impressive 26-7 win over Duncanville — then ranked No. 10 in the nation — in a game in which Allen’s defense allowed just 163 yards of total offense and had eight sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Four-star sophomore quarterback Ty Snell threw two touchdown passes, Lyndon Spriggs ran for 61 yards and two touchdowns and star sophomore wide receiver Zach Williams had seven catches for 68 yards and a touchdown in his Allen debut after transferring from Bishop Lynch. Allen will try to back up that win when it faces a DeSoto team that has won three state titles in four years. DeSoto opened its season with a 38-14 loss at St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.), then ranked second in the nation by MaxPreps. Allen will have to find a way to slow down DeSoto four-star running back SaRod Baker, a Texas Tech pledge who ran for 3,096 yards and 45 touchdowns last year. This is the teams’ first meeting since 2023, when DeSoto won 39-7.
Riddle’s pick: Allen 28, DeSoto 21
