SAN ANTONIO – A young man was found dead with electrical burns and injuries from an apparent fall early Wednesday morning on the West Side.

Police and firefighters were called just before 5 a.m. to the area of Ruiz Street and North San Marcos Street after a passerby spotted what appeared to be a body on fire in the parking lot of the Kozy Corner Saloon.

When firefighters arrived, the man’s clothing was still smoldering. They extinguished it and discovered the man was already dead.

Police said the man appeared to be in his early to mid-20s and had electrical burns along with injuries consistent with a fall.

Exactly what happened remains under investigation.

A large electrical tower stands near the parking lot where the man’s body was discovered. Investigators had not confirmed whether the man had been on the tower or how far he may have fallen.

There were no known witnesses to what happened.

Two women initially arrived at the scene because they were concerned the person might be a friend they believed was suicidal. Police later determined the man who died was not their friend.

Investigators are still working to determine how he was electrocuted, where he fell from and what led up to his death.
