With the state takeover of HISD set to end next year, Spring ISD could be the next in line.
According to new data, at least 14 Texas school districts are on the verge of triggering the state takeover law in 2027. Spring ISD is on the list.
“Spring has been borderline on a couple schools for a period of time, and after 5 years the state must take over, if you’ve got the same school failing for 5 years” said State Senator, Paul Bettencourt, who is also the Texas Senate Chair of the Higher Education Committee. He also leads the A-F program.
“These are a mixture of schools out at Spring that need to be looked at” Bettencourt told KTRH, “The bottom line is, the important thing is what gets measured gets fixed, they know they’ve got a problem. It’s time to get to hard work, I’m looking forward to improvement.”
The two Spring ISD schools that are struggling are Salyers elementary, and Bammel middle school. They have until September 11th to appeal.
The state takeover would happen in June of next year.
