Warmer Wednesday, slim rain chances off to the west

  • September 2, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Expect more of the same Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and temperatures a few degrees on either side of 100 degrees.

Upper heights will increase slightly despite Tropical Storm Edouard moving into east-central Texas. This will push highs slightly higher to the upper 90s on the Caprock and low 100s off the Caprock.

Monsoonal storms are expected once again across central and eastern New Mexico by Wednesday afternoon. Some of these storms could make it into the northwest zones by early afternoon before dissipating, keeping a slight chance of thunderstorms in the forecast.

Though severe weather is unlikely, a few brief strong wind gusts up to 55 mph are possible if storms develop across the northwestern South Plains. The short-lived storms may continue Wednesday night into Thursday near the Texas-New Mexico state line, but most locations will remain dry.

Wednesday night will be similar to Tuesday night with lows only slightly warmer, averaging in the 70s across most of the forecast area.

Hot temperatures will continue into the weekend with no significant relief expected.
