Rockport moved from Stage 2 to Stage 1 restrictions effective immediately, allowing once-a-week outdoor watering on designated days.

ROCKPORT, Texas — Rockport residents can now water their lawns once a week as the city eases its water restrictions from Stage 2 to Stage 1 following improved water supply conditions.

The Stage 1 Mild Water Shortage restrictions are effective immediately, according to the City of Rockport.

Under Stage 1, the city is aiming to reduce daily water use by 5%.


When can Rockport residents water?

Outdoor watering with automatic irrigation systems or hose-end sprinklers is limited to once a week based on the following schedule:

Tuesday: Even-numbered residential addressesWednesday: Odd-numbered residential addressesThursday: Multifamily properties and commercial customers

Sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems cannot be used between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Residents can use a handheld hose with a shutoff nozzle, a watering can or bucket of five gallons or less, or a drip irrigation system on any day.

The city may also approve exceptions to the once-a-week rule for new plants for up to 60 days, vegetable gardens, athletic fields and botanical gardens.

Golf course greens, tees and fairways that use city water can only be watered on designated watering days. Water used to protect building foundations is also limited to designated watering days.

The restrictions do not apply to irrigation systems supplied by private water wells or aerobic septic systems. Properties using those systems must have a visible sign that says “Water Well.”

The city is also asking customers to repair water leaks as soon as possible and continue conserving water.

Rockport officials said the move from Stage 2 to Stage 1 comes as water supply conditions improve.

The city will continue to monitor the water supply and may adjust restrictions again if conditions change.
