Here’s the latest on seven ongoing and upcoming transportation projects in Plano, according to the city’s community investment program.

This list is not comprehensive.

Upcoming projects

1. CPKC Railroad Crossing Improvements

Project: The city is replacing existing railroad crossings at Los Rios Boulevard and Plano Parkway. The project will also add sidewalk for some of the city’s gaps in the current sidewalk system.

Update: Los Rios Boulevard will be closed from Plano Parkway to 14th Street for asphalt approach restoration from Sept. 2-4.

Ongoing projects

2. Sidewalk Improvements along Plano Parkway

Project: The city is working on roadway, sidewalk and driveway improvements along Plano Parkway from Independence Parkway to Alma Drive.

Update: Plano City Council approved a change order increasing the total construction cost for the project at a meeting Aug. 10. Clay Lipscomb, the city’s community investment project engineering manager, said the project has one parcel of trail left near the Plano Parkway bridge over Prairie Creek.

3. Residential pavement repair zone Q4

Project: The city is in the process of residential pavement repairs in east Plano near Bob Woodruff Park and the Pecan Hollow Golf Course.

Update: Drew Zaeske, the city’s public works community investment program manager, said repairs in the section north of Park Boulevard are 95% complete. He said the city is issuing another construction contract for the neighborhood south of Park Boulevard.

4. Legacy Area intersection work

Project: Five intersections in the Legacy area are seeing new turn lanes and safety improvements.

Update: The intersections at JP Morgan Chase, SH 121 and Legacy Drive, Towne Square Drive and Preston Road have been completed. Work is ongoing at Legacy Drive and Corporate Drive as well as at Corporate Drive and Tennyson Parkway.

5. Bob Woodruff North Lighting Replacement

Project: The city is replacing 17 electric light poles with solar-powered poles around the pond at Bob Woodruff Park.

Update: Park Planning Manager Katie Dunham said completion, initially expected for September, has been pushed back due to material sourcing delays early in the project. Temporary trail closures for the project have been reopened.

Completed projects

6. Arterial concrete repair along Custer Road (Spring Creek Parkway to Hedgcoxe Road)

Project: The city removed and rehabilitated existing concrete from an arterial road and did sidewalk repairs along Custer Road.

Update: Concrete repair from Spring Creek Parkway to Hedgcoxe Road has been completed, Zaeske said. He said construction between Hedgcoxe and SH 121 is still ongoing with an estimated completion for Spring 2027.
