ROCKPORT, Texas — The City of Rockport is pleased to announce it has moved from Stage 2 Moderate Water Shortage Conditions to Stage 1 Mild Water Shortage Conditions, effective immediately.

The change reflects improved water supply conditions and allows the City to reduce some water-use restrictions. Even so, the community’s continued conservation efforts remain essential to protecting the reliability of Rockport’s regional water supply.

Under Stage 1, mandatory restrictions apply to certain non-essential water uses, with a goal of reducing total daily water demand by 5%.

Stage 1 Water Restrictions

Residents and businesses must comply with the following requirements:

Irrigation with hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems is prohibited from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.Outdoor watering with hose-end sprinklers and automatic irrigation systems is limited to once per week on the City’s designated watering schedule.Watering with a handheld hose equipped with a positive shutoff nozzle, a faucet-filled bucket, a watering can of five gallons or less, or a drip irrigation system with a positive shutoff device is permitted on any day.Exceptions to the once-per-week watering limit may be approved for new plantings for up to 60 days, vegetable gardens, athletic playing fields, and botanical gardens.Golf course greens, tees, and fairways using City water may be irrigated only on designated watering days.Water used to maintain building foundations is limited to designated watering days.Customers are encouraged to repair controllable leaks promptly and adopt additional water-saving practices.Stage 1 Watering ScheduleTuesday: Even-numbered residential addressesWednesday: Odd-numbered residential addressesThursday: Multifamily properties and commercial customers

The City’s Drought Contingency Plan does not apply to irrigation systems supplied by private water wells or aerobic septic systems. Properties using those systems must post a prominent, legible sign that reads: “Water Well.”

The City will continue monitoring water supply conditions and may adjust its drought response measures as needed. Residents and businesses are encouraged to keep conservation top of mind and use water-wise practices to help safeguard Rockport’s supply.
