LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Another hot day on the South Plains; once again daytime temperatures have climbed to the 90s. The afternoon maximum was 96 on this first day of September. The average temperature for the beginning of September is 89 degrees.

Looking ahead, temperatures will remain well above normal levels through the week and into Labor Day. The general range each day will be 96-100 for most of the central and eastern communities. For those viewers living east of the Caprock there is a chance for some 100+ temperatures the next couple of days.

As for former Tropical Storm Edouard, which is on land now, it will continue to slowly weaken and move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area on its northwest track. There’s only a slim chance that it could bring showers to the southeast South Plains.

The South Plains should see a slight decrease in temperatures for the weekend and early next week.
There is a slight chance of some showers or storms along the Texas and New Mexico state line the next Wednesday and Thursday.
The Labor Day weekend will be hot with weekend and Labor Day afternoons climbing to the mid-90s.
