Police chase ends in Richardson, closing lanes on US 75, police say

After the chase ended, police say the suspect was found with a gunshot wound that may have been self-inflicted.

RICHARDSON, Texas — Allen police officers were engaged in a chase Monday afternoon involving a suspect who was found with a gunshot wound that may have been self-inflicted, officials say.

Police say an Allen officer saw a vehicle speeding on U.S. 75 at about 3:15 p.m. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver reportedly continued driving.

After crossing into Richardson, police say the driver reportedly began driving erratically before eventually stopping on U.S. 75 between Collins Boulevard and Campbell Road.

As officers approached the vehicle, officials say they found the driver with a gunshot wound that may have been self-inflicted.

The driver was taken to a local hospital, police say, where his injuries are being treated. A passenger in the vehicle has also been detained for questioning.

Allen officers did not use any force during the incident, officials said.

The investigation is still ongoing.

All southbound lanes on U.S. 75 at Collins Avenue were closed for a period but have since reopened, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
