EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A central El Paso park known for its vibrant murals celebrating Chicano and Mexican-American imagery is getting a new name.

Lincoln Park, located at 4001 Durazno Avenue, is being renamed the Lincoln-El Paso Chicano Park after El Paso City Council leaders unanimously approved the change during Tuesday’s meeting.

City leaders said the renaming was recommended by the Lincoln Park Conservation Committee.

The committee proposed the new name to preserve the park’s original name while also recognizing its importance to the local Mexican-American community.
