COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Kickoff is Saturday, but the real game plan started months ago. Thousands of people and a mountain of supplies are behind every Aggie gameday.
“Between our facilities, offices, and game management, we’re working pretty much once June hits; it flips the football,” said Erin Jones, the Texas A&M’s Executive Associate Athletic Director for Game Management.
Texas A&M kicks off its season Saturday against Missouri State.
But this game’s been in the works for over a month, with thousands of staff training behind the scenes.
“We always joke in game management, like obviously there’s always going to be something going on in the background, right? But as long as 100,000 fans don’t know that it’s happening, we’ve done our jobs correctly,” said Jones.
Jones says they expect around 100,000 fans Saturday — including more than 40,000 students.
“41,000 students pull tickets, which obviously is unbelievable. I mean, that’s larger than a lot of student populations at universities. So we’re very lucky and blessed here that we can have so many students that want to attend those football games,” said Jones.
And they’re feeding that crowd: 150,000 bottles of water and 40,000 hot dogs are stocked and ready to go.
“We have some new concessionaires and vendors. And so we have all those people in place as well, and they’re ready to go,” said Jones.
Once SEC play heats up, Jones says Kyle Field’s crew is ready for even bigger crowds.
“Kyle Field, even on its smallest day, is going to have at least 75 to 80,000 people in it. I think we’re prepared and we’ll have our entries ready to go and, you know, leaving, make sure that they’re fully stocked and overstocked for those types of games,” said Jones.
For those coming to the game Saturday, Jones says prices for many gameday favorites will be lower than last year.
