LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Tonight’s “Thursday Night Throwdown” match between the Coronado Mustangs and Lubbock High Westerners will feature two schools trying to shake off last week’s frustrations and earn a win to build on early in the season.
Last week, both teams got off to strong starts. In last week’s TNT season opener against Estacado, Lubbock High struck first with a 2-yard touchdown from running back Nathan Johnson to take an early 7-0 lead. The Westerners then led 10-7 with 1:18 left in the first half, before Estacado pulled away in the second half for a 47-13 win.
The Mustangs are also looking to put their season opener behind them. They held a 28-9 third quarter lead over rival Monterey before the Plainsmen made some key changes and rallied for a 36-35 last-minute comeback win. Despite the loss, Coronado QB David Bawcum threw four touchdowns, and completed 21-of-32 passes for 213 yards.
Tonight’s game kicks off 7 p.m. at PlainsCapital Park and will air on KJTV 34.1, Optimum 11, DirecTV 11, UVERSE 1011, and SIMULCAST KJ-CD 32.1.
