AUSTIN (KXAN) — President Donald Trump held a dinner party at the White House Rose Garden Wednesday evening, discussing midterm elections and committing himself to help Republicans win their campaigns.
Trump promises to campaign for Republicans and says they have a winning midterm message
Trump said control of Congress will come down to 35 races, and he pledged to spend the 30 days leading up to the election campaigning where those races are.
“I’m going to go to every one of those 35 places, and we’re going to see if we can get everyone elected,” Trump said. His focus, he added, would be on House and Senate races.
He specifically listed Senate races in Alaska and Texas, where Republican state Attorney General Ken Paxton is running against Democratic state Rep. James Talarico.
Trump was not shy to share opinions on both Texas Senate candidates.
“We’re going to go to Texas and work for Ken Paxton, who’s a great guy,” Trump began.
“Ken Paxton, you might not like the way he dresses. And I say this, it’s so insulting to him, but I might as well say it. You might not like the way he looks. You might not love his look. You might not love his television interviews. But he was the best attorney general in the country, perhaps. He was one of the best in the entire country. And that speaks a lot louder than the suit he’s wearing that doesn’t look so great, or than anything, frankly. He was maybe the best attorney, and everybody admits it. He was a great attorney general in Texas,” the president said.
Trump also debuted a new nickname for Democratic candidate Talarico, who holds a narrow lead over Paxton in new polling.

“And he’s [Paxton] running against Tala-creepo,” Trump continued. “And this guy was, he has that name for a reason. He’s terrible. He’s radical left. Now he says he loves meat. You know what he does? He eats meat and he goes outside and he throws up all over the place.”
“Because in Texas, if you don’t eat meat, you’re in deep trouble. It’s not a good thing not to be able to eat meat. He was wearing a mask six months ago. He had a mask on. When somebody’s wearing a mask six months ago, you’re in deep trouble.”
