EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — More than $1 million is headed to El Paso veterans organizations through a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission, funding local outreach programs aimed at helping veterans connect with services.
The Texas Veterans Commission presented the money on Thursday.
The commission said the funds will be placed into a general fund and used by local outreach programs to help veterans access different services.
El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego said the grant will also support the Veterans Treatment Court.
“We were also able to get the grant in conjunction with the Veterans Treatment Court. That is an amazing intervention. You have veterans struggling with PTSD, struggling with mental health, and they end up in the court system,” Samaniego said.
The program is also expected to help veterans with financial assistance, including transportation and groceries.
