For many, it will be a day to rest and recharge. The holiday also marks the unofficial end of summer before fall starts up.

But, when is Labor Day? And who observes the holiday? Here’s what to know.

When is Labor Day?

This year, Labor Day is on Monday, Sept. 7.

Since 1894, Labor Day has been observed on the first Monday of September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The annual holiday is to celebrate to the “social and economic achievements of American workers.”

Who observes Labor Day in Fort Worth?

Many people.

Labor Day is a federal holiday, meaning that any all federal employees have the day off. Most schools, like Fort Worth ISD, and colleges, like TCU, also observe the day. The same goes for Fort Worth City Hall, except for trash collection, which will operate as normal.

For any and everybody else, it’s up to their employer.
