Houston – When something goes wrong at home, there’s usually someone we can count on to show up and fix it.
Plumbers, HVAC technicians, electricians and other skilled tradespeople are often the people behind the scenes keeping our homes, businesses and communities running. Now, country music superstar Tim McGraw is helping shine a spotlight on those everyday heroes.
McGraw has teamed up with SupplyHouse for its “The Day Savers” campaign, which celebrates tradespeople who consistently show up when they’re needed most.
For McGraw, the campaign hits close to home. He grew up around tradespeople and said his nephew’s career in the HVAC industry has given him an even greater appreciation for the work.
McGraw said he watched his nephew work his way up from starting with an HVAC company to eventually running his own businesses. Seeing his hard work and success made the campaign especially meaningful to him.
“These guys and gals” are everyday heroes, McGraw said, pointing out that people often don’t think about skilled trades until something breaks. Once the problem is fixed, the tradesperson typically moves on to the next job without much recognition.
McGraw hopes “The Day Savers” campaign changes that by giving people an opportunity to recognize the tradespeople who have made a difference in their lives.
The campaign will award $100,000 total to 10 tradespeople, with each winner receiving $10,000. McGraw said the money could help a winner further their education, grow their business or simply improve their life.
So, what makes someone a “Day Saver”?
McGraw said he believes consistency, honesty and a great attitude are just as important as having a high level of skill. He also emphasized the importance of recognizing the people who quietly do their jobs every day without expecting a pat on the back.
The campaign also aims to inspire the next generation to consider careers in the skilled trades. McGraw noted that these jobs continue to be needed and can offer lucrative career opportunities.
