El Paso needs a limpia! El Paso had a wild 24 hours, but there was one person who seemed to have an especially long day: El Paso Police Detective Judy Oviedo.
I didn’t fully realize just how busy she had been until I was putting together my news stories the next morning. One story featured Detective Oviedo speaking to reporters. Then another. And another.
By the time I was actually on the air, I found myself saying, “Here is Detective Oviedo once again.”
Detective Oviedo was EVERYWHERE!
Turns out, I wasn’t the only person thinking this poor woman had put in some serious hours.
El Paso Police Detective Judy Oviedo Had One Very Long Day
To understand why Detective Oviedo deserves a little appreciation, you have to understand just how busy things got for El Paso Police.
Within roughly 24 hours, police responded to three separate major incidents, these were serious situations, and each had its own investigation unfolding. But there was one familiar face briefing the media throughout it all: Detective Judy Oviedo.
First, there was a deadly construction accident in Northwest El Paso.
Then, later in the evening, a shooting involving neighbors in Northeast El Paso.
Then a stabbing that led to an hours-long SWAT situation near Canutillo.
By that third one, you couldn’t help but wonder: Has anyone let Judy go home yet?!

El Paso Shows Detective Judy Oviedo Some Well-Deserved Love
People following El Paso Police Department’s updates were wondering the same thing, and the comments quickly turned into an unofficial Detective Judy Oviedo appreciation section.
One person summed up the day perfectly:
“Detective Oviedo I’ve seen you more than I’ve seen my mom this week.”
Another wrote, “Shout out to Detective Judy for putting in the work today,” while someone else told her, “Take care of yourself Judy, thanks for being out there.”
Then there were the people who were a little more concerned about Judy’s work-life balance.
One commenter hoped she got to go home and enjoy a bubble bath because “Homegirl deserves a raise and a vacation.”
Another simply wrote, “Let that woman go home.”
Honestly, fair!

EPPD Detective Judy Oviedo Deserves a Day Off
The comments were funny, but underneath all of the jokes was a whole lot of appreciation.
Detective Oviedo had the very visible job of standing in front of cameras throughout an incredibly difficult day and explaining what police knew as each situation unfolded. And people took notice of just how hard she was working.
The police officers, investigators, first responders and everyone involved in these incidents had a difficult day, but Detective Oviedo became the familiar face El Paso kept seeing through all of it.
So, Detective Oviedo, thank you for putting in the work. I hope you eventually got to go home, put your phone on Do Not Disturb and got some sleep!
