Plano ISD Board Vice President Nancy Humphrey was named the Plano Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Citizen of the Year.

The announcement was made during a surprise visit featuring several former Citizen of the Year recipients, who welcomed Ms. Humphrey into a distinguished group of community leaders who have made a lasting impact on Plano. 

Ms. Humphrey is serving her fifth term on the Plano ISD School Board, spanning 15 years. During her tenure, she has also served on the board as president and in other key roles. Ms. Humphrey is chair of the Plano ISD Board’s legislative subcommittee and serves as a liaison to the City of Richardson and City of Plano. She serves ex officio on the Richardson Chamber of Commerce Executive Board and is a member of its Workforce Committee. In 2015, she and her fellow legislative subcommittee members founded Taxparency Texas to raise awareness of the need for school finance reform.  She frequently advocates for public schools at the state capitol during legislative sessions.

Ms. Humphrey is active with the North Texas Area Association of School Boards (NTAASB) and Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), serving on the Legislative Advisory Council.  She graduated from the Leadership TASB Class 2015 as a Master Trustee. She has also served on the SMU Simmons Education Advisory Board since 2018. Awards include the Hearts and Heroes Community Service Award from Health Services of North Texas in 2017, the Silver Beaver Award in 2019 for her support of Scouting, and the 2020 Athena Award, presented by the Plano Chamber of Commerce at the Best of Plano Awards.

As an active PTA volunteer and booster volunteer when her children were Plano ISD students, she received a Texas PTA Honorary Life Membership in 2006. In 2012, she received the Texas PTA Extended Service Award.

In recognition of her leadership, service and commitment to the community, Ms. Humphrey will be honored at the Chamber’s Best of Plano Awards on Friday, November 13, 2026, at the Marriott at Legacy Town Center.
