These seasonal and cultural festivals across Dallas-Fort Worth—with kid-focused activities and entertainment—offer free general admission. Translation: more room for picking up pumpkins to take home and to indulge in treats and fall foods.

Now remember that while the getting in part won’t cost you any dollars, free admission doesn’t always mean a completely free outing. Here’s what to know.
Timing: Every festival on this list offers free general admission for specified days or times—some all festival long, some only a few hours.
Parking: Don’t assume. Check the event details before heading out. But we’ve noted here below where you can for sure count of free parking.
Food & drinks: Plan to pay separately unless the listing specifically says otherwise.
Kids activities: Crafts, rides and games may cost extra at some festivals, but we’ve noted where, like Festival at the Switchyard, their kids activities (and concert admission too) are wholly free.
Free Festivals in Dallas County

When: Thursday–Sunday, September 17–20, 2026
Why go? Put on your game face in the Mini Masskrug competition, one of the kids activities at this annual celebration of German culture. Live music, food, carnival rides and games—they’re all part of the fun, plus crafts, airbrush tattoos and a chalk walk in the Kidsgarten. Sunday adds even more entertainment with the Dachshund Dash and Pet Parade.
Cost: Here’s the catch, it’s free general admission on Thursday only. If you’re nearby and can manage a weekday/night out, it’s worth the effort!

Why go? Celebrate cultures from around the world with live performances, global food, an artisan marketplace and family activities, including traditional street games, kids’ crafts and a sensory-friendly break area. Kids can also enjoy a photo booth and interactive experiences while families catch performances ranging from a lion dance and hula.

Why go? Climb aboard the Li’l Grand Western Days Express Train, tackle inflatable obstacle courses and bounce houses, or see how long the kids can hang on to the mechanical bull in Kid Kountry. Families can also catch live music across six stages, dig into festival food and watch the Padrino Foods World Tamale Eating Championship.
Cost: Free admission before 6pm both days for all ages and always free for ages 12 and younger. It’s after 6pm that it switches back to requiring admission: $15 for adults 13 and up. Kid Kountry wristbands are $15; free for ages 2 and younger.

Why go? This 40th annual festival celebrates the town heritage crop. Come watch the Peanut Parade and burn off some energy in bounce houses at the free Kid Zone and go on free pony rides too. Kids can also get their faces painted, and pick up a free ticket for a sweet treat like soft serve, cotton candy, a Frio pop or Kona Ice.

Why go? At Texas’ official Capital of Halloween, this festival is the always the star of the season. Cheer on Denton’s famous coffin races, play carnival games in the pumpkin patch and stick around for a lantern-lit twilight parade and the family-friendly Cirque du Horror show with a live orchestra. In the self-proclaimed Halloween Capital of Texas, families can also catch puppet shows, go trunk-or-treating and experience the Procession of Little Angels.
