LUBBOCK, Texas — While many big cities will often see music festivals being held, you may be shocked to know Lubbock is hosting one of those festivals.

It’s called ‘The Good Times Fest,’ an event hosted by Blue House Productions. This event is a three-day festival at the Garden, featuring bands that are local and from out of town.

This event was started by the creative mind behind Blue House Productions, Clayton Medley, who is someone that decided he wanted the Lubbock music scene to grow.

“I just wanted to see more music culture in Lubbock, honestly. After COVID, a lot of stuff kind of died and dissipated a little bit and there were a lot of places figuring out what they were going to do as far as music, and you can talk about the underground sound or like the professional side of things. For us it was more what can we do for the community? What can we do for the local folks still in town,” Medley said.

The idea started when Medley was in college, throwing house parties, hosting DJ events and rap events sparked the idea for something bigger.

“We gradually grew into this thing where we were doing big bands and throwing big festivals, so it’s been cool to see the community that we have built and the culture that were growing,” Medley said.

Medley said at times it was a challenge figuring out the Lubbock community wanted to hear, explaining everybody has their own “niche.”

“It’s just been a broad band of figuring out what works and what doesn’t work,” Medley said.

The Good Times Fest is a “Battle of the Bands” event, as Medley described.

“We have got three judges coming out and they will be judging the bands. Over the course of about a week in half, we had an Instagram vote-off. Everyone got their friends to go and vote on our Instagram story. We had 28 bands submit this year,” Medley said.

And this year they have partnered up with Fox Tone studios doing a recording and media bundle. This means the winning band will get and amazing prize, such as getting a song recorded for free, a music video content shoot and photos as well.

Medley described the bands that will be playing as “broad,” saying there is something for everyone.

‘There is a lot of heavy metal, rock and roll and country that night. Friday is more of our rock night, a lot more alternative I would say,” Medley said.

Medley says the festival has seen growth since last year and is excited to see the hard work come to life.

“Its been fun to see the growth but also work for the growth too, that has been one of my favorite parts. It’s been a challenge all the way around.” Medley said.

The event will be held September 10 through the 12 at the Garden at 1801 Buddy Holly Avenue. Medley says the event always has “good music, good times, great vibes, good people and great nights.” Tickets can be bought here and to keep up the festivals page you can follow along here.
