Will banks and post offices in Fort Worth be open on Labor Day?

A three-day weekend in celebration of Labor Day allows you extra time to do whatever you want. Except, go to Costco, a bank or the post office.

The holiday was first established in the late 19th century when labor activists lobbied for a federal holiday to observe the many contributions American workers have made to the country’s well-being.

Now, the day off is symbolic for the “last hurrah of summer,” as Labor Day weekend is the last holiday weekend of the season. This year, it takes place on Monday, Sept. 7.

Though most grocery stores and liquor stores remain open for Labor Day, some establishments also take part in the federal holiday.

Are banks closed on Labor Day?

According to the Federal Reserve Bank, Labor Day is an observed holiday.

Bank processing will stop on Sept. 5 at 3 a.m. and resume Sept. 7 at 5:30 p.m.

What about post offices?

According to the U.S. Postal Services website, USPS will observe Labor Day as a holiday.

Since USPS does not operate on Sundays, the postal service will be open Saturday, Sept. 5 and then resume operations on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

USPS website and self-service kiosks will still be available.
