CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Critical fire weather conditions will grip all of South Texas today as strong north winds and bone-dry air sweep in behind a powerful cold front. The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a Red Flag Warning from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday for the entire region, including the Coastal Bend, Brush Country, and Rio Grande Plains.
Forecasters warn that north-northeast winds of 20–30 mph, gusting up to 45 mph, combined with humidity as low as 15 percent, will make it easy for any spark to ignite rapidly spreading wildfires. The warning covers Corpus Christi, Laredo, Victoria, Alice, Beeville, Kingsville, Rockport, and Port Lavaca, extending inland through Webb, Bee, Goliad, Nueces, and La Salle Counties.
Officials strongly advise residents to avoid all outdoor burning, welding, or activities that create sparks. Drivers should also use caution along rural highways where blowing dust and grass fires may briefly reduce visibility. Local fire departments remain on high alert, and TxDOT crews urge motorists to report any roadside smoke immediately.
Although temperatures will stay near 77°F, the combination of dry fuels, gusty winds, and low humidity will persist into Sunday night. Elevated fire danger is expected again Monday before winds ease midweek.
