Texas Tech hit a new enrollment record this fall, and apparently, it comes with a side of “Where the hell am I supposed to park?”
There are 45,812 students this year, the first time Texas Tech has ever topped 45,000, and that’s a major increase.
Now, students are learning the hard way that you can fit 45,812 onto campus a whole heck of a lot easier than you can fit ALL of their cars…
Local reporting from KAMC says that students have been complaining that finding a parking spot is a daily frustrating challenge.
The part that’s making them REALLY angry?
They are paying for parking…
For the 2026-2027 academic year, parking ranges from $45 for a commuter satellite permit to a whopping $570 for the Flint Avenue Garage. Commuter surface permits cost $175.
The thing is, paying for an ePermit doesn’t mean you have a little reserved spot with your name on it. The spots are first-come, first-served. When the preferred lots sell out, students have to choose another lot or join a waitlist to get a spot.

The university has satellite lots and a shuttle service. You can park in one of those and then take a bus to campus. They run every 5 to 7 minutes. Not the most convenient option, but it beats being late for class because you have nowhere to park…
