DALLAS TWP. — The Dallas offense had another productive evening scoring six touchdowns. There was a balance between running the football and throwing it. Slip in a little play-action, and it’s easy to see why the Mountaineers surpassed 40 points in each of their first two games.
But for as much as the offense was producing, the Mountaineers needed to lean on their defense. Dallas fumbled the ball six times, losing four of them and each time the defense responded by keeping Valley West from capitalizing.
Quarterback Talan Geskey threw for 179 yards and four touchdowns while running back Marc Saracinaj rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-12 victory in a Wyoming Valley Conference game Friday night.
“We can hit, we have guys that can run and they fly around,” Dallas head coach Rich Mannello said. “Defensively I thought we flew around all night. We were running and hitting on defense.”
Dallas (2-0) scored on the opening drive when Geskey connected with Tyce Mason on a 59-yard touchdown play.
The two hooked up again following a Valley West punt when Geskey found Mason for 27 yards and a 14-0 lead.
Marc Saracinaj made it 21-0 before the first quarter was over when he capped a three-play, 29-yard drive following a Valley West (0-2) fake punt attempt.
“Special teams again,” Mannello said. “It is what we do here. You could tell how important it is to them. It changes games. They are bought into it.”
Brandon Miller added a 27-yard field goal with 8:05 left in the second quarter to put the Mountaineers ahead 24-0 at the half.
The Mountaineers scored on their first three possessions of the second half as the offense continued to click. Dallas has outscored its first two opponents, 87-12.
The fumbles are something Mannello plans on addressing before the team resumes practice next week.
“That’s not going to work,” Mannello said. “We are going to watch the film and dig into it to find out what it is. It just seemed like we were a click off here and there. Putting the ball on the deck is not good.
“I told the offensive line in a one-score game that is not going to work. We have to come out as something. You’re never as bad as it looks and you’re never as good as it looks.”
Valley West finished with 21 yards rushing. The Spartans scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns on passes to Malique Campbell and Noah Council.
