No. 6 Indiana football opens season with a dominant win over North Texas
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. —
No. 6 Indiana picked up right where it left off Saturday as the team rolled past North Texas in its season opener.
The Hoosiers wasted little time making an impression in their first game since completing a perfect 16-0 season and winning the program’s first national championship.
Indiana’s starting quarterback Josh Hoover connected with Michigan State transfer Nick Marsh for a touchdown on his first throw in an Indiana uniform.
Boston College transfer Turbo Richard then added a rushing touchdown as the Hoosiers jumped ahead 14-0 in the first quarter.
Hoover finished 13-of-16 passing for 231 yards and four touchdowns without an interception.
Charlie Becker caught four passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns, while Richard scored twice on the ground.
Indiana led 24-6 at halftime.
The Hoosiers then pulled away in the second half, scoring 28 points after halftime.
The win extends Indiana’s winning streak to 17 games and gives coach Curt Cignetti’s team a strong start to its first season as defending national champions.
Indiana will return to action next Saturday against Howard at Memorial Stadium.
That game kicks off at noon on the Big Ten Network.
