SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Texas has climbed to $3.68 per gallon, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That’s 6 cents higher than a week ago and 92 cents higher than the same day last year.
The San Antonio average price for a gallon of regular is now at $3.74 heading into Labor Day weekend.
“Texans filling up for Labor Day holidays will spend about $15-$20 more on average for a full tank compared to this time last year,” said Doug Shupe, AAA Texas Corporate Communications Manager.
Among the major metropolitan areas surveyed, El Paso has the highest average price at $3.97 per gallon, while Tyler has the lowest at $3.55.
Nationally, the average price is $4.14 per gallon, up 5 cents from last week and 95 cents compared with the same day last year.
Despite the increase, Texas remains the second least expensive state for gasoline, behind Indiana, where the statewide average is $3.44 per gallon. AAA says prices across the country have risen amid continued uncertainty surrounding oil prices and supplies.
AAA Texas recommends that drivers compare prices before filling up, including through tools such as the free AAA Mobile app, to find the least expensive fuel nearby.
