Police say the driver could face an intoxication manslaughter charge as investigators review surveillance video and other factors

HOUSTON – A pedestrian was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle near Cullen Boulevard and Bellfort Avenue, according to the Houston Police Department.
The man was crossing Cullen outside a marked crosswalk and entered an active traffic lane around 9:46 p.m. A northbound vehicle hit him, and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The pedestrian was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he later died despite life-saving efforts.
Police said the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage and working to determine whether speed or other circumstances contributed to the crash.
The DWI charge could be upgraded to intoxication manslaughter as the investigation continues, investigators said.
