LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Whether you’re working on Labor Day or not, it will still be hot. I expect the afternoon temperatures to return to the mid to upper-90s again tomorrow. The continuing control of the upper level high over the southern U.S. will insure hot afternoons through mid-week.

We do have some hope of showers and/storms by Thursday and Friday, but the temperatures will remain over the 90 degree mark.
Today in Lubbock it was a hot 96 degrees. Our average high temperature for early September is a cooler 88 degrees. The record on this date is 103 degrees, set in 1948, at least it was that hot today.

We will drop a few degrees Thursday into the weekend due to clouds and hopefully some showers or storms. The rain chances will be decreasing in time for Friday night football.
There is also some indications that the upper high will ease to the east leading into next week and allow the heat to decrease over the region.
