SAN ANTONIO – Today @ 10:30 a.m., This weekend is the San Japan Convention and that got us feeling those Japanese vibes so we decided to take you on a trip around SA to a variety of spots where Japanese culture is blossoming.
First stop, Minnano Japanese Grocery where they have snacks, drinks, treats & everything you need to make your own favorite Japanese dishes. We discover 3 must-try snacks including, a drinkable jello & a kitkat flavor we’ve never seen before.
If you love brews, blooms & cats… you’ll love Neko Coffee & Plants. This coffee shop brings the zen vibes & imports a variety of their coffee beans & matcha from Japan.
Otaku Cafe is San Antonio’s largest anime store and arcade. They’re home to many communities in the anime/gaming/trading card scene here in town including the San Antonio Fighting Game Community who were recognized by Evo 2026 as the Best Local Fighting Game scene nationwide.
Anime Tokyo has been in town for more than a decade. They’ve become the go-to place for Anime figures, Japanese snacks, drinks, hobby items like model kits from Gundam, and Pokemon. They also have the largest selection of gashapon in town.
Hanamaru is one of the only places where you can find Taiyaki. It’s a fished-shaped waffle which they serve hot with sweet/savory fillings or cold with soft serve ice cream. They also have delicious over-the-top drinks & a curry that will leave you wanting more.
