Class 6A analysis
With a 40-10 victory over Southlake Carroll, North Crowley still holds the top spot with plenty of room to spare.
Despite the loss, the Dragons will remain the No. 2-ranked Fort Worth-area Class 6A squad until someone else takes them down. The same goes for the Aledo Bearcats at No. 3 — Week 2 wasn’t kind to either squad, but they shouldn’t be punished for scheduling tough competition.
The gap between Aledo and the rest of the pack, however, seems to be growing smaller. That may make District 3-6A play a bit more interesting for the Bearcats and their 135-game district win streak.
With Arlington Bowie suffering another loss, Mansfield Lake Ridge jumped slightly. This week’s big winner is Arlington Martin — the Warriors have had a fantastic start to the season, beating solid Mansfield and Flower Mound Marcus squads. They jumped from unranked to No. 7.
Arlington and Hurst L.D. Bell shuffled down with Week 2 losses.
Class 5A analysis
Mansfield Timberview’s win over Denton Ryan makes the Wolves the area’s new No. 1 squad in Class 5A. The Wolves are showing why they’re ready to compete for a state championship.
The gap between Richland and Timberview is slim, however. The Royals can definitely find their way back to No. 1 with success the rest of the regular season.
Not much else changed in Class 5A, besides Azle and Arlington Seguin shuffling down two spots with Week 2 losses. Fort Worth Wyatt and Joshua rose up.
Class 4A analysis
In Week 2, Alvarado fell to Kennedale; as a result, the Indians have fallen out of the rankings. It’s a big change from the past few years, as Alvarado was a consistent staple in the top four teams.
The sudden switch provides some opportunity to other Fort Worth-area Class 4A squads. With the big win, Kennedale has entered the rankings.
Private school analysis
Fort Worth All Saints has got back to its winning ways and still holds the top spot by a comfortable margin. In general, not enough changed occurred for any movement.
