HILLSBORO, Texas (KWTX) – The Texas Dept. of Public Safety identified Zachary Barton, 39, of Arlington; and Katherine Barton, 39, of Arlington, as the two people killed in a wreck in Hill County over the weekend.
The multiple-vehicle crash also left two others in critical condition in Hillsboro, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety statement.
Texas DPS troopers responded to the five-vehicle crash on State Highway 171 near County Road 4223, north of Hillsboro, Saturday night.
THE INITIAL CRASH
According to the DPS report, a farm tractor towing farm equipment was traveling northbound with its lights flashing when a northbound Ford Fiesta passed a pickup truck, reentered the right lane and crashed into the farm equipment, causing it to detach.
Investigators suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the initial crash. The names of those involved in the initial collision were not released by DPS.
SECOND CRASH
Shortly after, a southbound Chevrolet Traverse and a southbound Ford F-150 were involved in a crash with objects in the roadway, DPS said.
The Bartons, identified as the driver and passenger of the F-150; and a 12-year-old passenger in the Chevrolet Traverse, exited their vehicles during the wreck . DPS said they were standing on the roadway when they were struck by another vehicle.
The 12-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition, DPS said.
Another person was injured the wreck but no update on that individuals condition was provided.
The crash remains under investigation. No further details are available.
