Tired of circling the block looking for parking before a night out in the Fort Worth Stockyards? Relief is on the way.
A surface lot at 2458 Ellis Ave. — right off of the Stockyards’ main drag along Exchange Avenue — will be transformed into a parking garage.
Construction is expected to start in October, a representative for M.L. Leddy’s told the Star-Telegram — and the garage is expected to be completed in the fall of 2027.
The garage will have roughly 296 parking spaces. According to construction paperwork filed in September, the garage will have entries on 25th Street, Ellis Avenue, and an alley south of Ellis Street, as well as 2,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.
A vacant building on the north side of the lot will be torn down, the M.L. Leddy’s representative said, to make room for the parking garage.
In May, the Fort Worth Zoning Commission approved a conditional permit for a four- to five-story garage, standing 55 feet tall, for use by people visiting the Stockyards as well as customers of M.L. Leddy’s Handmade Boots, which owns the land that the surface lot sits on. The building will be made of brick and stucco to mirror other historic buildings in the district.
The zoning only allows for surface parking, so Dallas-based Parking Systems of America needs the permit to build the garage. That permit was approved by the Fort Worth City Council in June.
The new garage will serve a much-needed purpose, M.L. Leddy’s general manager Mark Dunlap previously told the Star-Telegram, while preserving the historic nature of the district.
