SAN ANTONIO – Northside Gym was buzzing Tuesday as the O’Connor Panthers and Warren Warriors battled on the volleyball court.
In the fourth set, Warren took an early lead when Caylor Petersen made a diving dig to keep the ball alive. Gabriella Davila then set up Kenya West, who slammed the ball down for a kill to give the Warriors a 3-1 advantage.
O’Connor answered moments later. Olivia Pena made the dig before Sydney Roth set Pena up for the attack. Pena struck the ball to the left for a kill, putting the Panthers ahead 5-4.
Warren continued to battle, with libero Hailey Tobias setting up T’Anna Evans for a powerful kill.
The Warriors eventually rallied to defeat O’Connor in the fourth set and secure the victory.
The win was a milestone for Warren, marking the first time the Warriors had defeated O’Connor under head coach Heidi Paddock.
Antonian defeats Brennan in four sets
The Brennan volleyball fan base showed up in force Tuesday at Antonian, providing an electric atmosphere for a competitive matchup between the Bears and Apaches.
In the first set, both teams fought to keep the ball alive as the action went back and forth. Antonian eventually caught Brennan out of position, and Apache Jordyn Daniels found the opening, sending the ball to the floor to tie the set at 25-25.
Both teams continued back and forth. Daniels again came up with a dig for Antonian, and Cam Serna set up Maci Cantu, who slammed the ball down for a kill to make it 26-26.
Brennan captured the opening set, but Antonian responded as the match progressed.
The Apaches handled business in the fourth set, defeating the Bears after Brennan had taken the first set.
