CHAPARRAL HEADERS
Lubbock Christian University is returning for a three-game homestand to wrap up non-conference play, starting with Thursday’s matchup against Newman
LCU faced these same two teams last season, falling to then-No. 20 Fort Hays State 1-0 and fighting to a 0-0 draw in a neutral site game against Newman
The Chaps faced 21 shots by No. 12 UCCS on Sunday, which is the most shots attempted by an opponent in a single game since Oct. 30, 2024, when Midwestern State attempted 23
All four goals scored by Lubbock Christian this season have come from different players, as Lucas Carli, Agusto Militao, Joao Catafesta and Jack Brassey have found the back of the net
The two Chaparral captains for this season are Catafesta and Aron DePaula, and Carlos Kramer, Augusto Militao, and Adam Davison round out the rest of the leadership team
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT
The Chaparrals come into the weekend ranked fourth in the Lone Star Conference in shots per game, averaging 12.50 per contest. They had a season-high 24 in the Aug. 29 win against Adams State. They have scored four goals so far on the year, averaging 1.00 goals per game. Of the 48 shots, 18 have been on goal for a shots on goal percentage of .375. Freshman Oli Robinson leads the team in shots with nine, but sophomore Jack Brassey is the team leader in shots on goal with four. He has a shots on goal percentage of .667.
IN THEIR DEFENSE
On the flip side, the Chaparrals have limited opponents to 1.50 goals per game, allowing just six total goals through four games, including one shutout. Junior goalkeeper Milo Paci handled the majority of the time in goal through the first four matches, playing 348 minutes. The Frenchman has made 12 total saves against six goals allowed on 37 shots faced with a save percentage of .667 He made the one save required of him in the game against Adams State, recording his first shutout in a Chaparral uniform. Paci has prior playing experience in the Lone Star Conference at Eastern New Mexico.
GUESS WHO’S BACK
All four goals scored so far this season have been scored by players returning from the 2025 roster. There are 13 returning players from last year’s 2025 Chaparral squad. Four of those – Catafesta, DePaula and Davison and Militao – played more than 1000 minutes last season. Each of those four also played in all 20 games, although only Catafesta was a starter for every game of the season. LCU will also soon welcome back forward Pedro Lucas, who missed most of last season and the beginning of this one due to injury.
LOOKING AT THE LONE STAR
Three conference teams remain undefeated through the first two weeks of the season, including Texas A&M International (2-0-1), Midwestern State (2-0-2) and UT Tyler (1-0-1) Oklahoma Christian and UT Dallas are the only two LSC teams to have won at least three games already this year, but both squads have also already suffered a loss. MSU was picked to win the league this season after claiming the 2025 national championship.
THE FRIENDLY CONFINES
The Chaps are 1-1-0 at home so far this year and went 4-4-1 last season, including wins against Texas A&M International, Oklahoma Christian, Dallas Baptist and West Texas A&M. This weekend’s two matches are three and four of 10 home matches for LCU this season. They have not posted more wins than losses in Lubbock since the 2022 campaign, when they were 4-2-3. The LCU Soccer & Track Complex was completed in August of 2020 and features an AstroTurf playing surface, a Musco lighting system to allow for night games and stadium seating for 500 fans. LCU’s men have an all-time record of 62-42-21 in home games. The best season at home was just their second in existence, as they went 8-1-1 in 2011.
