HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Harris County residents between 18 and 30 may be able to clear certain misdemeanor records during a free community event later this month.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office and Fallbrook Church will host Clean Slate Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 26 at Fallbrook Church, 12512 Walters Road. The event will focus on helping eligible residents remove records that could create barriers to employment, housing and education.
Legal services will be available to Harris County residents ages 18 to 30 whose Class A or B misdemeanor cases were dismissed or ended in an acquittal. Qualifying offenses may include marijuana possession involving up to 4 ounces, theft, unlawful carrying of a weapon, resisting or evading arrest, criminal trespass and criminal mischief.
District Attorney Sean Teare said the event is intended to help people move beyond past cases rather than face long-term consequences after their legal matters have ended.
In addition to expunction assistance, organizers will provide occupational driver’s license applications for people who are employed. Those applicants will have court hearings scheduled for a later date through a partnership with Justice of the Peace Wanda Adams.
The event will also include a job fair and community resource tables, which will be open to all attendees regardless of whether they qualify for legal services.
Registration is required for legal services. Residents can register by scanning the QR code on the event flyer or visiting the Harris County District Attorney’s Office website.
