Trader Joe’s wants to bag another retail site in North Texas amid its ramp-up in the Dallas region.

The grocer is planning a new store in Plano on Preston Road near an intersection with Spring Creek Parkway, according to a filing with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The “interior build out” of a retail store is set to begin at the end of this year.

The project, with an estimated cost of $900,000, would cover about 12,500 square feet. Details in TDLR filings are subject to change without notice.

“We do have plans for a new Trader Joe’s store in Plano,” said Nakia Rohde, spokesperson for the company, while adding the company does not have any additional details to share.

The new site would be roughly across the street from an H-E-B, the chain’s only namesake in the city.

The new Trader Joe’s also would be near an existing store on Preston Road near the intersection with Park Boulevard, with the sites being separated by more than about 2 miles. The company recently added another a second site to McKinney, which is located about 5 miles from the older Trade Joe’s.

The company continues to invest in the region as it faces competition from others that are investing in new stores around the region, including H-E-B, along with Walmart, Kroger and Aldi. Trader Joe’s is looking to add a store Frisco and has eyed a new location Fort Worth, adding to cities that include Dallas and Southlake.
