Construction for a new Trader Joe’s grocery store in north Fort Worth is slated to begin in December.
The company plans to build a 12,500-square-foot store at 9052 North City Drive in the eastern portion of the North City development near the intersection of Interstate 35W and U.S. Highway 287, according to a Friday filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The store, costing about $900,000, is expected to be completed by June 2027.
“We do have plans for a new Trader Joe’s store in Fort Worth,” Trader Joe’s spokesperson Nakia Rohde told the Fort Worth Report in an email on Friday. “We do not yet have any additional details to share.”
The store could be Trader Joe’s No. 414, according to city records.
Last month, Fort Worth officials completed and approved an alcohol distance review — a step in establishing beer and wine sales at the store through the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
The city’s review indicates that the store site is not located within 300 feet of a church, private or public school, or public hospital. Although the site is within 1,000 feet of a private school and another liquor or package store, the development would be allowed under city ordinances. The city inspector checked a box on a form that indicated it is OK to issue an alcohol sales permit.
Rohde told the Report last month that the company’s new stores are announced about three to six months before the doors open to customers.
“We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year,” she said.
The grocer continues to expand across North Texas.
In addition to Fort Worth’s North City site, Trader Joe’s will build a store at 5900 Preston Road in Plano, according to another TDLR filing submitted Friday. Construction for that store will also start in December and be completed by June, that filing shows.
Trader Joe’s will build a 12,476-square-foot store at 2710 E. FM 544, Suite 100, in the Collin County city of Wylie. Construction for that 12,526-square-foot store is expected to begin in March and would be completed by June, according to the state filing.
The company is also planning a 12,505-square-foot Trader Joe’s store in Mansfield. That Fort Worth-area store, also scheduled to start construction in December, will be built at 3020 Matlock Road, a filing shows. Trader Joe’s No. 412 is expected to be completed in March.
Trader Joe’s currently has two Tarrant County locations, including 2701 S. Hulen St. in Fort Worth and 1492 E. Southlake Blvd. in Southlake.
