PHOENIX — The Rangers, stuck in a three-game losing streak that has pushed their season to the brink, pulled their last roster lever on Saturday, activating Josh Jung and Nathan Eovaldi.
It presents the Rangers’ offense an opportunity to play their expected four biggest producers — Corey Seager, Wyatt Langford, Brandon Nimmo and Jung — in the lineup together for the first time since June 11. The quartet has only played 26 games together this season and not since June 11.
Jung was slashing .294/.361/.441/.802 before the calf injury sidelined him and had been the Rangers’ most consistent and complete hitter for much of the season.
To make room on the roster for Jung, the Rangers optioned DH Logan O’Hoppe back to Triple-A. O’Hoppe, acquired in late July, had a .745 OPS in 18 games with the Rangers, but his role was essentially to DH against lefties.
In addition, right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, out since early August with an elbow injury, was activated and will go into a still-to-be-determined relief role.
Left-hander Adam Macko was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to create room for Eovaldi.
