Court records show an eviction proceeding took place hours before the fire, giving those living there illegally a deadline to leave.
SAN ANTONIO — First, there was a devastating fire and now, an elderly woman’s home is nothing but a smelly pile of burned debris.
A demolition crew was at work in the 3900 block of Bikini Drive Friday, knocking down what was left after a 3 a.m. house fire on August 26.
Family members tell us even though there was too much damage for arson investigators to rule on a cause, they believe the fire was suspicious. Court records confirm that just a few hours before the fire, there was an eviction proceeding in court and everyone who was living in the home illegally was given a deadline to get out.
Family members say they had planned to sell the home and use the proceeds to pay for the elderly owner’s care in a secure memory facility.
With the demolished home nothing but a liability now, they have a GoFundMe campaign underway.
