Though Central Texans are looking at a slew of triple-digit temperatures over the next few days, one TV meteorologist has a “way-too-early” prediction that’s very welcome.

CBS Austin meteorologist Avery Tomasco took to social media with humor and memes, as he often does, to herald an exciting prediction. He said a “distant pattern shift about 10 days from now **could** get us our first shot at some cooler air of the season by September 21st, give or take…” That would coincide with the first day of fall, which rolls around on Tuesday, September 22.

However, you may not want to start dreaming of crisp fall days just yet. According to Tomasco, it’s “highly unlikely you’ll be digging the sweater out of the cobwebbed depths of your closet, but a potential end to the monotony of triple digit days is in the cards. More to come.”

Plus, forecasts, especially this far in advance, can change pretty quickly.

“Don’t hold me to it. I’m being reckless. But I have nothing better to do right now,” Tomasco wrote.

At least the prediction seems to line up with some expectations the National Weather Service’s Austin/San Antonio office has set forth. While summer-like temperatures tend to persist throughout September, “the month often features the region’s [South-Central Texas] first significant cold front of the fall and better chances for rain than August,” the NWS wrote on social media recently. Additionally, “September in South-Central Texas typically brings early fall cold fronts, cooling highs from the mid-90s to upper 80s and lows into the mid-60s. Average rainfall rises to 2 to 4 inches with minimal severe risk.”
