If you think some people are obsessed with Texas, one actress claiming to be a former Coastal Bend native might be able to have them all beat.

In case you’ve missed it, on Friday, September 11, Entertainment Tonight posted a clip on their social media platforms of a red carper interview with breakout actress and Obsession star Inde Navarrette. From playing “Sarah Cushing” in the CW show Superman & Lios to “Nikki” in Obsession, Navarrette’s set for her next major project in the next iteration of X-Men as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After interviewer Cassie DiLaura said Navarrette greeted her with a “Darlin'”, she asked the actress about what famous Southern accents she would try to draw her character’s from. Navarrette did say she was aiming for the Mississippi accent, but that a part of it might be drawn out by another accent that she saw when she was growing up: In the Lone Star State.

“I’ve never told this publicly,” Navarrette said. “I completely forgot. I have a divorced family, so I grew up in Texas for a good majority of my life. So, honestly those Southern women are really my favorite. Corpus Christi is the city specifically. I just remember the old Southern women that I really, really love.”

So, she’s one of us? Texans that is. Naturally, the comments hemmed and hawed about the Coastal Bend accent being different from that out in Mississippi, but we won’t know how she’ll sound until we get a trailer for the new X-Men movie, which is slated to be released in May 2028. So I guess until then, we just have to wait to see, but we can still root for another former Texan on the big screen. I wonder what her Whataburger order is.
