A man is dead after being struck and dragged by a driver in a hit-and-run crash in San Antonio on Tuesday, September 15. Here’s what we know right now.
According to a preliminary San Antonio Police Department report obtained by MySA, officers were dispatched to the city’s Southeast Side around 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 15. An unknown male driver, now considered the suspect in the ongoing investigation, was on the Loop 410 access road turning left onto Rigsby Avenue when he saw a pedestrian in the crosswalk heading towards the other side of Rigsby.
“The suspect accelerated [through] the intersection, striking the complainant,” the report reads. “The complainant was dragged several feet. The suspect fled the location, failing to render aid.”
The unknown male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the report. Fleeing the scene of a crash without leaving a note, exchanging information or rendering aid can result in heavy consequences depending on the severity of the collision. In Texas, failure to render aid in a deadly crash is a second-degree felony, which carries the penalty of two to 20 years in prison and fines up to $10,000.
SAPD said the investigation into the hit-and-run crash is ongoing, so details from the preliminary report are subject to change.
